Of the hundreds of quests that have rolled through my log over the past few years, there's been a few that, for one reason or another, I've decided to keep. Permanently. Like, forever. Or at least as long as I can.
I've talked about some of them before, such as how to get the blue cannister backpack (which I have on like, all my characters), or the old Barrens quest that started from Chen's Empty Keg (which I still have, and that ingrate won't even thank me for holding onto it for all this time!). And of course, there was the short-lived fun of the Tahret Dynasty Mallet. But there's a handful of other quests (or quest items) that are just too cool to get rid of.
I should probably start with the much-adored favorite, Archmage Vargoth's Staff, used for a variety of quests in Netherstorm.
Vargoth is awesome. You can emote at him and he'll emote back, the staff and Vargoth image have a short cooldown (only 2 minutes), and you can summon the image in all kinds of places. I even wrote a Letter about him. Before Cataclysm and Archaeology's many little toys, and before Mists and its various marmots, summonable yaks and conch shells, there was Vargoth. He was a regular sight in our Cata kill shots.
Another quest I held onto for as long as possible was Elemental Energy, a rather generic early quest in Deepholm. You were given a totem and told to kill some elementals near it, to charge it up. But what was great about this quest was that you could drop the Depleted Totem quest item ANYWHERE, and pretend you were a shaman!
In dungeons, in town, it didn't matter, you could just plop that thing down and have fun with it. Sadly, I did have to finish this quest eventually on all my characters, because you needed to complete it to progress through Deepholm, and eventually unlock Therazane's shoulder enchants. If I didn't need those to actually raid, I would have just skipped the rest of the zone, but unfortunately it wasn't really an option. (The Depleted Totem was eventually hotfixed to only function in Deepholm, anyway.)
Speaking of Cata, what about the Elemental Invasion quests? I still have three of them in my log, Fired Up and Not So Good to Go, given by newly-appointed Warchief Garrosh Hellscream, and This Blows and Water They Up To?, which were given given by CAIRNE.
There's obvious sentimental reasons for keeping the Cairne ones...they're kind of, in in-game terms, his last words. But I also love the Garrosh quest, because it marked the first time we saw him in-game in a position of authority and responsibility. We saw him plenty in Wrath, being a brash jackass, but this quest text showed that he was turning over a new leaf and starting to think about the other mundane duties of being a leader - city repairs, bureaucracy, bills and paperwork clerical tasks...
Well, I guess we know that didn't really work out. But it's still fun to see what could have been.
And while we're talking about Garrosh...
The Horde finale in Stonetalon remains the DEFINING moment of Garrosh's character growth in all of Wrath and Cataclysm, despite what's happened to him since. It's tragic, shocking, powerful, and reveals a side to Garrosh we really hadn't seen before. This quest is pretty much the main reason Garrosh fans (what's left of them) grew to like the big lug. Of COURSE I was going to keep this one, so I could go back and "replay" the scene whenever I wanted.
Finally, my druid still has this Battleground quest in his log, mostly just for kicks. Marks of Honor! And...what's wrong with the progress tracking in the text? Haha. Weird.
