Minipost: Meet the Moat Monster!

Recently I've been making a big push for achievement points, in an attempt to catch Narci as nerd point leader of TTGF. This led to me parking my druid in Undercity to do the daily fishing quests, to get the achievement Fish or Cut Bait: Undercity.

Most of them were cute and classic Forsaken flavor, but the last one I needed, Moat Monster!, made me actually burst out laughing. Quest giver Armand Cromwell hands you a bag of frogs and tells you to head up to the courtyard and feed the moat monster. Not just any frogs though - frogs that were fed bloated spiders, which were fed bloated flies. Which is fine and all. But the kicker is that to make the moat monster appear, you have to pretend to be an Alliance player, causing it to "wake up" and ready itself to feed on Alliance blood. Okay, now that's a Forsaken quest.

The phrases and sayings that Armand has come up with to imitate Alliance are so absurd, and so disrespectful, and thus hilarious. Dry, undead humor at its finest. Is he just being sardonic, or does he think so little of Alliance races that these are sincere impressions? Either way, they're great. I love the Forsaken for their military culture and their fascinating lore, but their dark, incredibly sarcastic sense of humor is also a big reason too.

Finally, when you hand in the quest, Armand says "The dead feed the flies. The flies feed the spiders. The spiders feed the frogs. The frogs feed our moat monster... It's a beautiful circle of life with the goal of ending life."

Well said, Armand. I couldn't have put it better myself.

And those bloated frogs, fed with bloated flies, are the product of one of the cooking dailies... That dovetailing of a cooking quest with a fishing quest was what I most appreciated about the Undercity cooking and fishing dailies.
