Minipost: Magni's earthy state

This may not come as a surprise to anyone reading this blog, but I have lots of random, minor questions and musings about the game lore and what might happen in the future. Not all of these ideas are strong enough for a full post, so I thought I'd do a little weekly feature where I throw out some quick thoughts about a random storyline I'd been contemplating, and anyone who wanted to could chime in with their thoughts in the comments. Sunday seemed a nice day for some mild brainstorming, when everyone is sort of winding down from the weekend!

As we all know, Magni Bronzebeard is currently transformed into a diamond form. This is decidedly "not dead" so I think most people assume he'll eventually be transformed back or be reborn somehow, etc. Probably just in time to unite the bickering dwarf factions.

However, what makes us so sure this will be a good thing? Remember, Magni got turned to diamond because in the Shattering novel, he misinterpreted the meaning of "become one with the earth." At the time, no one really knew what was about to happen, or that Deathwing was behind the elemental unrest and global chaos starting to occur.

Think about it. Magni gets turned to diamond, and becomes one with the earth. Anyone remember what Deathwing's former title? Yep. The Aspect of Earth. As in, total control of all of Azeroth's earth, land and rock. It seems a little too coincidental for me.

Think it's far-fetched? Well, I might agree, except it's already happened before. I want to avoid spoilers so I won't go into detail, but in the story I'm talking about, things go down almost exactly the same as with Magni.

I'd hate for it to happen, but I'm not so sure I'd be thrusting Magni back on the throne when he softens up, even if the Council of Three Hammers is making a mess of things. I'm not entirely sure he'd still be the same beloved King that everyone remembers...

One thing that's been bothering me about Deathwing is how far his supposed power actually goes. If he does have complete domination over the earth and land, why doesn't he just rip it apart completely? Why go through the song and dance with the Twilight cult and Cho'gall and everyone if he could end it all with an exertion of his will?

Either he's toying with us for some reason (Super Villian Mistake #1) or he really doesn't have all that power.

Completely off topic but...did you get that shot in game? Kazi and I went search for Magni after the Shattering but we found neither hide nor...er, stone of him.

I didn't get that shot in-game, nope! It's from the PTR. Apparently in 4.1, Old Ironforge is being opened up and you will be able to go visit Magni's diamond self! :O

I for one hope that Magni doesn't come back as he's dead as a... well... rock. Seems a bit cruel to say, yes, but let's look at the facts shall we?

In his absence we have gained the Council of the Three Hammers, which despite bickering non stop, are the closest to united the three clans have ever been since before the War of Three Hammers.

If Magni comes back, does anyone else think he'll just boot the Dark Iron's back out and make the Wildhammer's just as unwelcome as before? As harsh as it seems to say it, I think ol' Magni was holding back the dwarves.

I would love for Magni to come back, but maybe not as King. I mean, there's a chance that he wouldn't boot the Dark Iron's (seeing as how his daughter consorted with them) and maybe the tensions with the Wildhammer would evaporate. This is just my input. Whether or not he resumes the throne, I want Magni back. He's awesome.
