A nice diversion

I'm falling asleep at work today and twitter/blogworld has been slow, so this meme survey from Sorry Caps was the perfect Monday morning diversion! (I started writing this yesterday but didn't finish it until this morning.)

Rhii, Anea, Alas and Jaedia also did this, so check out their responses too!

1. Raider, farmer, PvPer, or altoholic?
Raider, with spurts of PVP activity.

2. Favorite raid or dungeon?
I didn't raid until ToC, but Ulduar's visuals/lore are fantastic, and I love the story, music and atmosphere of Karazhan - so much so that I'm implementing it in my D&D campaign.

3. Number one choice for a new playable race?
I've wanted to be a Goblin ever since I started playing! So I'm pumped for Cataclysm. Worgen were a great choice, too. I'd like to play an Ogre, too. They've got such rich flavor from the old RTS games. I would also love to be the Consortium. They look cool and they've got an awesome engineering/mercantile twist!

4. Class you suck the most at?
ROGUE. By far. I've had 3-4 rogues, all of which have made it to 20 and not much farther. They just seem so boring, and I really dislike the feel of having to wait for a resource to "build back up" before being able to do things. The DK rune system does it much better, in my opinion. It doesn't feel as...fake.

5. Original UI or modded UI?
Original, actually. Just scaled down to about 85%. Sorry to hurt you Alas. ;) Mardak's UI - Rades' UI

6. Profession you've never levelled past 200?
None, actually. The only Professions that I don't have at 450 right now are Blacksmithing (275 on 42 Warrior), Inscription (375 on 64 Warlock), Tailoring (430 on 69 Priest) and Alchemy, which I had at 375 but abandoned.

7. Favorite flying mount?
For a long, long time it was the roflcopter, but I love my blue proto-drake for rarity, violet proto for having worked hard and earning it (and its higher speed, of course).

8. Nozdormu -- friend or foe, you figure?
It almost has to be foe. For one thing, if he comes back all friendly and normal and nothing's wrong...well that's just boring and doesn't lead anywhere. I don't think Blizzard would drop the COUNTLESS hints that something's wrong, without actually doing something with it. I don't think it's going to be just "Rawr surprise I'm actually out to kill you all!" because Malygos already did that. Maybe it'll be the classic future paradox where the current timeline being, a good creature, has to take on their future self, who over the years has turned to evil and has much, much more experience and tricks up their sleeve.

9. Useless item you have in your bank that you'll never get rid of?
So, so many fun but useless items - the Kirin Tor book that teleports you to the tower, virtually all the seasonal event fun items, etc. But in terms of keepsake value, I will always keep the two pieces of anti-scourge equipment that I got during the Scourge Invasion event, simply because I worked my ass off to get them, by myself (I wasn't in a guild), and through plain old hard work. Plus I think they look awesome.

10. Most expensive thing you've ever bought?
The Kirin Tor ring, and its various upgrades. Regretted it immediately, but I have to admit having a port to Dal is super handy. Tragically has now finally been replaced.

11. Favorite starting area?
For leveling efficiency, the Blood Elf area (Eversong Woods/Ghostlands), BY FAR. Fastest 20 levels you'll ever see. For flavor? I think Durotar (Orcs/Trolls) and Tirisfal Glades (Forsaken) both do a great job of establishing who those races are, what their history is, and what their attitudes are towards the rest of the world.

12. Inane goal you worked hardest to achieve?
Now that we have achievements, is anything truly inane? Haha. Something that I spent way too long on that has no reward or achievement...oh cripes, I know. Farming Blood Elf Bandit Masks. For an item that drops from a single mob that spawns randomly around an enemy zone, which requires extensive travel to reach...I've done this way too much. I own at least 5-6 masks. Farming Loque'Nahak for a week in Sholazar would be a close second, but that's a little different.

13. Darion Mograine VS Tirion Fordring, gloves off -- winner is?
In game canon, Fordring would pwn Mograine because apparently Fordring is god, and is more powerful than anyone, despite never really doing anything. Ignoring the Rhonin factor would lead to a more interesting clash, though. Both have really dark pasts involving the deaths of family members, betrayal, and sacrifice. Fordring sacrificed his entire career for honor, and watched his son die at the hands of the Scarlet Crusade, while Mograine sacrificed his life/soul? to free his father's soul. Pretty heavy stuff. In fact, rather than fighting, I'm a little surprised Blizzard didn't play up the father-son roles a bit more, since I'm sure they see their dead father/son in each other. They probably would never truly fight because of this (though Fordring would probably do anything to "save" or redeem Mograine, since he was unable to save his own son.)

14. Game music or your own playlist?
I sometimes turn on game music just to hear what a certain place's soundtrack is like, but otherwise it's always my own music, usually podcasts.

15. Particular option or setting that you always toggle on a new alt/server?
The absolute first thing is turn on all bars, load my omen/recount/universal keybinding settings.

16. Highest amount of levels gained in one play session?
Wow, I have no idea. I know I've completed the Blood Elf starting zone in one play session though...so 20 levels?

17. Thing you'd most like to experience or see in-game?
I'd like to kill Arthas, and do the old raids before they are gone/changed. I'd like to see an engineering-themed battleground where it's gnomes vs. goblins with crazy vehicles, launching pads, rocket packs, steam trains, etc. Just madness. It'd be awesome.

18. Worst PuG moment?
There's been only one PuG moment where I was about to rage-quit, a run of one of the Zangarmarsh instances. The tank was an ass and kept moving at a frantic pace, not allowing us time to loot, and told us that looting was overrated. (I was healing on my priest.) Later I warned him about a patrol aggroing due to proximity, but he assumed I had pulled it. For at least FIVE PULLS he kept giving me shit about how I wanted to go slower yet I was pulling groups, how he wasn't going to listen because I was doing whatever I wanted, etc. It was all I could do to keep from screaming at him, instead furiously stating "I. DIDN'T. PULL THE MOBS. I WAS WARNING YOU." I said this about 4-5 times, phrased differently and with increasing frustration & rage, until he finally got it. I was seething though. Then as icing on the cake a spellpower BOE dropped, and as soon as the loot window came up I GOT DISCONNECTED FOR FIFTEEN MINUTES. I nearly smashed my keyboard. When I eventually logged back in, I was dead, no BOE, and had been removed from the group. Worst PuG ever.

19. Best dungeon/raid moment?
Downing Deathbringer Saurfang with 9 people a while back, when it was still pretty challenging. Even better, the PuG was mostly newcomers to ICC and had never seen past Marrowgar, including both tanks. We had planned on stopping after Gunship since one person had to leave, but we figured we'd give him a shot since we were there. We reset it once after about 6 minutes (he was still at 100%...the tanks didn't understand the swapping correctly), and then downed him! We had myself to trap/slow beasts, and an arcane mage, and that was it for beast duty. It was probably the most exhilarating raid kill I've ever had, since I had ZERO expectations of downing him.

20. Worst quest ever that you totally hate doing?
Many, many escort quests. But the worst has to be the stupid Hellfire one where we accompany a spirit wolf to "find" the untainted Mag'har orcs. I say it's the worst because it's tremendously boring, you can't go ahead of the wolf or else it'll vanish and you won't be able to talk to the Mag'har, and you basically HAVE to do it, since otherwise the Mag'har quests in Nagrand will be unavailable.

21. First thing you do when you hit 80?
Well, I've only done it twice, but probably go train and equip any gear stashed away in the bank. I usually sneak into holiday events before hitting 80 so I tend to have a few pieces of seasonal equipment waiting for me.

22. Character (of yours) you would RP as if you had to?
I feel Rades is my most natural character where I wouldn't have to adjust my reactions or thinking, but it would be fun to imagine my Death Knight and Warrior (both female Forsaken) as the same person, just in different points of their life.

23. Keyboard, mouse, or both for using abilities?
Both, there's definitely times when one is better than the other. My hunter primarily mouse-moves so he can jumpshot, my druid usually keyboard-moves so I can click bars for healing. /shrug

24. Thottbot or WoWhead?
Wowhead. I hate Thottbot's stupid name. Plus the site itself is ugly.

25. Acronym you've seen in chat but don't understand?
I didn't know what TL:DR was until last week, but that's more blog lingo.

26. Plot point you'd like to see resolved someday?
I'm very curious about the Nozdormu one, actually. I'm also a huge fan of the Salandria/Dornaa mini-hooks that you experience during the Orphan's Week events, where it is strongly, strongly hinted that both will be important figures in the future.

27. Biggest thing you're looking forward to in Cataclysm?
Goblin engineering, archaeology, and honestly all the lore and new story opportunities in the changed Azeroth. I'm also intensely curious what will happen with Garrosh and the Horde.

28. Guild event you'd like to see?
I like doing anything unusual with my guild, like speed runs, mail-wearer/pet tanking things, running things severely undermanned...anything a bit wacky and funny.

29. Level range you hate being in?
55-58. Those last few levels before you can head off to Outlands are so dreary, boring and stale. I spent every second possible remaining in Winterspring before heading off to the desolate, ugly disasters that are Silithus and the Plaguelands. I usually even leave early and just grind some demon pigs in the Blasted Lands to hit 58, that's how much I hate those zones.

30. Favorite map to quest in?
Zangarmarsh. There's something calming and placid about it. It feels very natural and tranquil, despite the plant beasts and ogres running around. I don't even like all the quests in it, but it's surprisingly relaxing just taking a 5-minute break from killing things to gather some Glowcaps for Sporeggar trading.

I'm glad you had time to finish this.

I agree with your description of the calming and placid feel that Zangarmarsh has <3

Thank you for sharing your answers with us!

I'm so happy that the Goblins are going to be a playable race now, though I had always dreamed it would be a little different from how they actually did it.

What I was hoping for was that you would start out as a "neutral Goblin", allied with neither the Alliance nor the Horde, and you would do quests in the starting area that would wind up having you choose a faction. Unlike the Aldor/Scryer thing, you couldn't "switch back" later; it would be a one-time choice, but that way you could be a Goblin for either faction!

That said, I a still totally rolling a Goblin. They're soooo cute! The only question is, what class? :)
