Raid changes: don't talk about what you don't know

I dunno about everyone else, but I'm getting sick of reading blog posts and subsequent comments about people yelling at others for having an opinion about the 10/25 changes. Guess what guys? No one is wrong. Casual raiders have their thoughts about it, 10-man raiders have their thoughts, and 25-man raiders have their thoughts. All are valid. They may not be the same as YOUR opinion, but that doesn't make them any less valid or earnest.

Hell, even people in the same raiding demo have wildly varying opinions. Lissanna hates them, while Rilgon loves them. Both are 25-man raiders. Both make great, sincere and legitimate points about the changes. Neither is "wrong".

The thing that really burns me up are comments like "so-and-so demographic that isn't me sucks, or only cares about their e-peen/gearscore, or aren't real raiders" etc. The instant you deride the "other" demographic in your post or comment (ie a 25'er dismissing 10-mans as easy, or a 10'er saying 25-man raiders are just loot whores) means I instantly dismiss everything you just wrote as immature babble.

The only legitimate opinion one can have about the changes is how they affect YOU. The previous post I made about the changes? They're strictly how they affect ME. I don't know how they affect strict-10 raiders, or non-raiders, or dedicated 25-man raiders. I'm not in those situations. I honestly have no idea.

It'd be like me acting all knowledgeable and snarky about upcoming rogue or shaman changes - I have no idea how those classes work and what's good for them, so why would I comment on them? It would just be arrogant and presumptuous. (Not to mention my lack of legit knowledge would make me look like an idiot.)

It's the same here. If you're not a 10-man raider, don't talk like you know 10-mans. If you're not a 25-man raider, don't talk like you know 25-mans. Bitterness and arrogance just makes you look petty.

(This isn't addressed at anyone in particular, just a general statement/reaction to increasingly high stress & frustration levels evident in some blogs/twitters. Honestly there's been so much written about it that everyone's opinions have all blended together in my head. :P)

I'm shocked and annoyed by many of the comments on posts - that resort to name-calling "elitist" etc, rather than simply posting "I disagree, and here is why."

I am starting to wonder if I should have written anything at all, or if I should just take a blogging break - or think of something silly to blog about. I really like people in the blogosphere, I'm happy about the changes, but I know not everybody else.

Let's all be friends, please, yes? Yes. Maybe I will write a post about my roflcopter.

    Hear hear!

I know I was getting a little huffy over people arguing against the changes...and now I realize how petty it all is. All that matters is how the changes will affect me. Thanks for putting me back in my place. ;)

This (all of it) is how I feel about the situation and why I haven't posted.

Luckily it seems to have died down a bit. Whew.
