Theramore scenario transmog thoughts/gallery

I haven't yet seen a blog post about the special loot you can obtain from the Theramore scenario, so here we go!

(This post is not about the faction-specific items - tabard or bomb - but instead about the random loot you have a chance of getting from the satchel at the end. And it's not about their actual game stats or anything, AT ALL. I don't care about any of that, since it'll all be obsolete in less than a week anyway. All that matters to me is NEW GEAR TO MOG OMG.)

It's actually really funny. I'm terribly disappointed, yet the completionist mogmaxer in me is also excited at the prospect of new mogging options. Curse you, ambiguous transmog opinions!

My first reaction upon seeing the Theramore loot?

Wow, this stuff is garbage.

Seriously, some of the rewards have utterly horrendous models. We're talking worse-than-vendor-trash models! Re-skins of green, white or grey quality items, or gear that's identical to level 30 dungeon/quest rewards. How utterly thrilling. This is a very significant lore event we're witnessing/taking (minor) part in, and our reward is a plain white scimitar? A dented axe that an orc peon would be ashamed to use? Ugh.

You'd think that for their big special pre-Mists feature-that-isn't-technically-a-launch-event-but-everyone-knows-it-totally-is, they'd have put a little more effort into the actual rewards...

I'm not asking them to reinvent the wheel or anything. But Rades still has the Undead Slaying gear he earned from the pre-Wrath event, which are mail recolors of the Judgement set. It's rare, it's a unique look, and it's something I proudly mog into now. That's all it takes. Take some older gear, throw some different colors on it, change the armor type to make it unique and bam, there we go! Recognizable, memorable, irreplaceable rewards that people might keep fondly for years.

But this time? This time, Rades got an ugly blunderbuss that was dirt brown, undetailed and ugly. I cherished it so much that I immediately went and mogged my bow into it, and then paid 25 gold to deposit it into my void storage where it would be kept safe and secure so that hahahahaha nope just kidding I threw that piece of junk to a vendor in disgust as soon as I got back to Org.

Epic reward from the important pre-launch lore event where Horde annihilated
an entire city? Or grey-quality vendor trash? Who knows.

Now, not all the items make me want to cry. There's a nice white/blue/gold caster staff, as well as a simple but nice looking cutlass (which is significant because there are almost no cutlass/saber models in the game). And there's some wizard hats and wolf helms, too. I'm a little tired of them, but I'm sure there will be plenty of players who adore them. There are also a few helms that use models normally not available to that armor type, so even though they don't look all that special, they're actually rather unique in that regard.

All in all, there's some really ugly rewards, some okay ones because they're recolors or different armor types than normal, and a few decent ones that - sadly - you can just get elsewhere. And while they did recolor and mix up armor types for a few pieces, they used what must be the game's most boring and unexciting items as their templates!

My Undead Slaying transmog outfit gets comments and attracts attention. I don't think using a spear that looks like vendor trash or recolors of some random green BoEs is going to have the same allure a few years down the line. Gotta say, fairly unimpressed and rather disappointed.

(My lack of enthusiasm won't stop me from farming up those three plate helms though, since I love crowns and circlets. :D)

Here's a gallery of the various satchel rewards you can get. They seem to be related to your character, so your paladin shouldn't end up with any cloth or daggers. Unfortunately, I suspect this means my death knight can't get the Intellect plate crown. :(

Some pictures from Wowhead, since screenshots of these items are still scarce, and I own only a few of them.

Rok'nah Hag's Hat (cloth Intellect helm)
Squallshaper's Hat (cloth +Hit helm)

Other options:
Mistscape Wizard Hat, Sorcerer Hat, Silk Wizard Hat.
Theramore Arcanist's Hat (cloth +Spirit helm)

Unique colors! Get it now!
Rok'nah Raider's Helm (leather Intellect helm)
Rok'nah Skirmisher's Helm (leather Agility helm)

No other leather helms with this model, get it!
Rok'nah Wolfcaller's Helm (mail Intellect helm)
Rok'nah Wolfstalker's Helm (mail Intellect helm)

Other options: Many, but none quite this primarily white/beige color.
Black Circlet (plate DPS helm)

There are no other plate helms that use this model,
so get them!
Golden Circlet (plate Tanking helm)

There are no other plate helms that use this model,
so get them!
Silver Circlet (plate Intellect helm)

There are no other plate helms that use this model,
so get them!
Blood Guard's Shield (Intellect shield)

Shield of Maraudon is an easy alternative.
Captain's Cutlass
(Strength Tanking 1h sword)

Only one other sword uses this model:
Revilgaz's Cutlass.
Archmage's Staff (Intellect +Hit staff)

Get this staff while you can! Tower of the Mouldering Corpse is the same model, but has very different colors.
Grunt's Greataxe (Strength 2h axe)

There are many, many alternatives to this really boring model. Heck, you can buy it from a vendor.
Marine's Rifle (Agility gun)

Try the Blam Blam Gun or Failed Liferocket Prototype as alternatives.
Marksman's Blade (Agility 1h dagger)

Very bland model, but appears to be the only dagger version. (The others are 1h swords.)
Overseer's Handaxe (Agility 1h axe)

Duplicates available: Savage Axe or Rockbiter Cutter.
Sailor's Scimitar (Strength DPS 1h sword)

Alternatives: Honor Hold Saber,
Nordic Longshank, or various others.

Skirmisher's Spear (Agility polearm)

Don't worry if you don't get this - there's plenty of other mundane, bland polearms available.
Staff of the Faithful (Intellect +Spirit staff)

This staff is really nice. Of course, you can just go over to Scarlet Monastery and grab the identical Greatstaff of Righteousness from High Inquisitor Whitemane instead.

OH thanks for posting up all these pics of the items! I do admit I like the swords, the cutlass is nice! However, us puny druids can't really use many of these items...

Psh. Not everyone is addicted to extensive curlycues and chromed-out belt buckles. There's mog for show, which has its place (usually the stairs in front of the AH) and there's mog for utility. I think those swords are perfect for the latter. How the hell can you take a warrior seriously if the swords he's carrying look like Elton John's cake batter paddles?

But, to each his own, I suppose. I've never been a big fan of garish, and I suppose I never will be.

(And Blizz has two settings: basic, and garish).

I wants the White Wizard Hat, precious! Several NPCs wear that hat, and I have wanted it for *so* long! I'm going to run that scenario with my Human Mage as many times as it takes for her to get it!

The rest of it, I am rather less interested in.

LOL @ Grimtooth re. "Blizz has two settings: basic and garish." So true, so true! XD

@Grimm - There's absolutely mog for show, and mog for utility! I'm just disappointed that THESE pieces are practical, generic looking ones, since it's really easy to go get other unremarkable swords and whatnot from other sources.

@Navimie - Yeah, there's really not much for druids, is there? :(

@Kamalia - I do like the white wizard hat, and might have to farm it on my priest (partially because it might be the only chance to get it)

I dunno, I haven't been raiding Dragon Soul and I was pretty happy to get the plate crown for my warrior and healing staff on my priest.

Also the fireworks are funky and explode in the shape of your faction sigil!

@Rades - you'd be surprised how hard it is to get something that looks practical. Most of them seem to be whites, or quest items (and woe if you've finished that quest already). I was fortunate in my own mogging in that most of the pieces I wanted were from quests I hadn't done.

Wait... because that white wizard hat has +Spi, does that mean I have no chance to get it as a Mage? /cry

@Kam - It might just be limited to armor type, actually - Stoppableforce's warlock just got the white hat!

@Kamalia - I don't think it's limited by class. My priest got the mage/lock hat, for example.

Yeah, my wife wants the caster staff on her mage but keeps getting the healer one. It's just by armour type.

Also, I think you've mixed up the roles for the black and gold circlets. Dodge and parry don't sound like DPS stats to me...
