Minipost: Level 80 dungeon discoveries
Lately I leveled an Alliance death knight and locked her at 80, to take part in Waypoint's Herald of the Titans effort. It's been interesting, running Cata dungeons for Justice Points, saving up Frozen/Runed orbs for crafted gear, seeing just what ilvl 200, 219, and 226 gear is actually available, etc.
In a way, it's almost harder than during Wrath, since no one is actually running ToC or the ICC 5-mans! I've been running them a lot lately, sometimes with friends, sometimes just queuing up and hoping for the best. And the queues...well, they've been something.
I can't even remember the last time I've seen a queue over an hour. Even when I try for LFR late, late at night, it rarely actually hits the hour mark. And we still needed a tank AND healer at this point. I think the queue was about 90 minutes when it finally popped. I believe I watched a few shows on Netflix, did some blog writing, and went and ate dinner while I was waiting.
Now, I realize there's not a lot of people queuing for level 80 content. But this sight will never cease to amaze me.
In one ToC pug, we completed it, then decided to queue again. (This was on normal difficulty - yay for trying to get the Banner of Victory!) We all re-queued, but then as soon as we zoned in, the healer dropped. :| So the rest of us were like "...well, guess we're doing this without heals, because we're NEVER going to get a replacement."
(I was tanking, and we did do it without heals, without any real difficulty. But that unanimous resignation was pretty funny.)
Brutal queues aside, it's actually been kinda fun and nostalgic running these dungeons. A lot of memories and things I'd forgotten about. Like poor newbies to ToC having ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA how to joust and just getting destroyed by those horrible faction champs. Or that bug when, after the jousting, you pull the champs and then they vanish after a few seconds. Or in Pit of Saron, that one skeleton worker near the start below the side ledge, who ALWAYS gets pulled as you run by up above.
Ah, memories.
At least no one tries to blitz up the ramp to Tyrannus anymore. God, I don't miss that. It NEVER worked.

"Or that bug when, after the jousting, you pull the champs and then they vanish after a few seconds."
More counterpoints to the blue who recently asserted "bugs get fixed." XD

Those instances, in contrast to the zergfests that came before when the dungeon finder first came out, caused me to fall in love with the game.
A good group was like a well oiled machine, but the fights would still challenge. A bad group always failed, but could improve if they listened to advice. I felt valuable because I could explain the fights.
That should be the model for MoP dungeons.

I take it you haven't done Magister's Terrace or the Tempest Keep 5-mans on heroic mode, have you?
When I did that a while back on Tom and Neve, I finally gave up after 2 hours.

I didn't do much of the TotC.
But, I do remember waiting in Shatt during BC, spamming the LFG channel: dps lfg... I remember quite a few nights where I had to wait over an hour for an instance that I really wanted.
Nuts, right?
