How to Kill Coren Direbrew at Level 47!

UPDATE: I've been told that lower-level characters no longer receive the bonus keg of loot when doing this, though they can still loot the trinkets from Direbrew himself.

I was quite disappointed this year to discover that my level 76 priest was unable to queue to kill Coren Direbrew, as I was hoping to get the caster trinkets for when he hit 80. I'm not sure what level you have to be to be able to queue for it - my level 79 DK can do it. Not being able to kill Coren also means, of course, that you are unable to complete the Direbrewfest portion of the seasonal meta-achievement Brewmaster.

However, there is a sneaky little way you can get lower-level characters in on the kill...as low as someone in the 40s, actually.

You need at least two friends to help you do this. If you're pugging it, I highly suggest one of the friends be a tank (this will make sense later.)

Example: I want to get in on my level 47 warrior. I'm not sure what the minimum level for this trick is, this was the lowest level character I had. I enlist my tank friend Taurenpelt and any other 80 (doesn't matter what they are) - let's say my brother's shaman, Nharzul.

Taurenpelt and Nharzul group up, and make sure Taurenpelt is the party leader. He queues them for Coren, checking the "I am willing to be party leader" box. Nharzul queues as whatever he wants.

When the queue pops, they accept and zone in. Taurenpelt checks to see if he's party lead - if he isn't, this won't work. Once they see that he is indeed party leader, Nharzul drops group and gets warped out, and Taurenpelt invites my warrior. I join, click the "teleport to dungeon" button & warp in. (This is why I recommend that one of your friends be a tank - so the group doesn't start the fight while you're changing members.)

Once he's invited me, Taurenpelt starts the fight (or if an overeager DPS started it already, grabs Direbrew) and the group mows him down like usual. As long as I warp in before he's dead, bam! Keg of loot and a chance at trinkets. As Xevozz would say: PROFIT.

A few things to note:
- Whoever drops the group will receive the 30 minute Deserter debuff.
- You get 2 Frost Emblems from the keg, even if you're low-level!
- The fight took only 19 seconds...my lack of DPS didn't negatively affect the end result at all.
- I got 37% (!) experience for the kill. A group of people with numerous 80s could quickly powerlevel a low-level character a few levels in mere minutes.

Now, is this poor form to get carried unknowingly by strangers? Technically, maybe a little. It's probably more considerate, and more guilt-free, to do it with an all-friend group. Alternately, I suppose you could tell the others what you're doing, or ask permission, before switching characters.

On the other hand, is it even worth the time & effort? The time it would take to explain what you're doing would literally take as long as the fight itself. Direbrew is such a joke this year I seriously doubt any group will have trouble downing him, even with someone contributing nothing. And it's not like you're asking them to carry you through a 20-minute heroic...it's a 20 SECOND cakewalk.

If a trinket drops that someone actually needs, you should probably let them have it since you're being carried and can't even use them. But really, even if you take one, it's not exactly hard for people to farm Direbrew until they get all the trinkets they want. Most people are just after the mounts & remote anyway, which drop from the keg, so you're not interfering at all with their chances at these special prizes.

And that's it! The rest of the Brewfest achievements aren't too tricky, as long as you're getting the tokens by delivering the kegs of ale. Unfortunately, The Brewfest Diet requires you to be at least level 65, so my warrior won't be Brewmaster Shrapnel anytime soon. (Thanks Cynwise for pointing out this level requirement!) But if you just want to grab the trinkets for later or get a shot at the Brewfest mounts for your lowbie, it IS possible! It just takes some effort and a little help from your friends.

That's really clever... I kind of doubt Blizzard would approve though, so prepare for it to get hotfixed once they hear about it.

Yeah, it's clearly not "working as intended" in this case! ;D I honestly just wanted to get in & get the caster trinkets on my priest who's 1-2 levels away from being able to queue for it...the level 40 thing is more of a bizarre, hilarious side effect!

This is indeed an interesting way of doing things, and feels kinda wrong.

Now, if I could only find someone to help me with it on a low-level... ;)

Haha. I enjoy this because I heard it as it was going on. I still can't believe you can bring a level 40-something in there to do this! Bizarre. But more importantly I'm glad your priest got the trinket you wanted. :D

    Sneaky.

And I was just going to say to do it the old fashioned way and just enter into BRD.

I think I'll try this tonight with guildies. A group of five, one drops and swaps toons, and so on.

Just tried this with a level 40 warrior, worked like a charm. Thanks for a nice tip!

Doesn't seem to give a keg anymore... but still gives the achieve and a shot at trinkets

Thanks for the awesome tip. I am going to have to get that one on my 55 warrior.

This line really made me laugh. "(This is why I recommend that one of your friends be a tank - so the group doesn't start the fight while you're changing members.)"

I run this on my tank daily and only once, yes, once, did one of the DPS not run in and start it instantly. Every other time they started it before I could even change into bear form. Thank god I was not in my healing gear and spec.

If Nharzul could queue as a tank, he would.
